Non-scale Victories & Other Weight Loss Miracles

About This Blog & Its Owner

Long story short – I joined Weight Watchers on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 after deciding that I really needed to do something about my weight and eating habits.

I didn’t gain my weight until after college, once I started my first sit-down job. Over the course of about 10 years, I put on over 100 lbs (probably closer to 150). At my highest, right after 9/11, I weighed just over 300 lbs. And fortunately, or unfortunately, as a result of my volunteer experiences, I have plenty of “before” pictures to prove it. At my lowest in college, I was around 135-140 lbs. However, that was so long ago, it probably doesn’t even count, and I’m certainly not aiming for that as my goal weight! Besides, at 5′ 7″, I looked a bit anorexic at that weight.

Since 9/11, I initially lost 50 lbs, of which I put back around 30. Before this past October, the last number on the scale that I remember was 289 lbs, and that was in the fall of 2006. I know I lost some weight after spending 6 months working at a physically demanding job. I’m just not sure how much.

This past October, I weighed in at 276 lbs. I joined SparkPeople, which helped me get the first 5 lbs off. In November, I joined Weight Watchers, and thanks to a great leader (are you reading this, Melanie???) and the phenomenal Wednesday night 160 Broadway group, I am down an additional 23 lbs as of 02/27/2008. I’m now at the lowest weight that I’ve been at in over 10 years!

UPDATE: As of 12/03/2008, I am now down 67.4 lbs since joining Weight Watchers. I’ve added a ticker below to track my weight loss since joining Weight Watchers.

My goals are pretty simple right now…

  • Get to under 200 lbs (any number with a “1” in front of it is fine by me!)
  • Be able to shop in “normal” women’s clothing departments and stores and look good in clothes
  • Fit comfortably in an airplane seat without needing a seatbelt extender
  • Be able to jump around on the dance floor like I did in my 20’s (I still dance a lot, and often – I just can’t jump around on the dance floor like I used to)

They may change, and I may add more to that list later, but that pretty much sums them up for now.
